Works in Progress

Thought that I would do a little show and tell and provide some actual knitting content. I'm almost up to the heel on the second Horcrux sock...the first of three that I plan and this one will be for E. And I was shocked to learn that we have the exact same foot size now. So this means that once he outgrows them...they will be mine.

He opted for the Monarch yarn from Angora Valley that I got when I swapped with Leslie a couple of weeks ago in the Nasturium. Love this yarn!

Then I started a Chevron Scarf, which was originally going to be my step-mother-in-law's birthday gift but now will be my aunt's birthday gift (found her a gift that is more in keeping with her personality...one of those cigar purses). I'm using KnitPicks Memories in Spring Prairie and Rocky Mountain Dusk (which of course went on sale after I placed an order...that's my luck).

I'm right on target with my summer knitting goals...next up the super secret project for my niece's birthday! Oh but first hubby asked me to make booties for another co-worker who is having a baby...thinking I might try my hand at a pair of crochet sneakers.

Ode to Randomness

Since I was tagged over a week ago by both Christine and Tonni I thought that it was about time to finally sit down and write the random tidbits about yours truly. So here goes:
1. I was a studio art major in college despite going on to dental school. I knew that I wanted to tap into my creative side while I had the chance. Most of my work was in oils...very large canvases that I stretched on my own. My senior thesis was on the melding of words and symbols in art.
2. I have two degrees from Ivy League schools...BA from Brown and a DDS from Columbia University. Then I did a general practice residency at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Manhattan and a combined program in Pediatric Dentistry and Masters at the University of Medicine and Dentistry in New Jersey. Unfortunately all that advanced education went down the tubes when I learned that all the dropping of instruments on the floor wasn't due to being a klutz (I think that my hubby would argue this point that it is still a quirk of mine) or carpal tunnel but rheumatoid arthritis.
3. Knitting actually helps my RA...but sometimes I do get nerve irritation and drop needles on the floor. Plus it is a stress reliever for me and I'm all about taking advantage of whatever relieves stress these days.
4. Had to bring up some pet peeves as it happened again this morning on my way to work. People who speed through school zones! I actually started to cuss the person and when I caught up to them a couple of traffic lights later...I flipped them off. New Yorker tendencies crop up every now and then in my vehicle. The other pet peeve is when someone speeds out of a parking lot or road to turn into your lane and then slows down. I just HATE that! Oh and when my son and hubby pick their cuticles and it makes that awful stratchy sound...nails on a blackboard.
5. My favorite meal of the day is breakfast...I could eat a bowl of cereal morning, noon and night. Although chocolate can also be eaten at any given time of the day in our household along with sushi (but not together...we aren't that weird).
6. I can't live without my DVR because I'm a Reality TV junkie. I set everything to tape and then catch up on the weekend. I watch American Idol, Survivor, Amazing Race and Big Brother.
7. I do have my drama faves like 24, Prison Break, Grey's Anatomy and Lost. Hopefully tonite I can watch the season finale of 24 and Lost. Hubby finally decided to watch 2 drama series with me as they were new this year and he could be there from the start...Jericho and The Riches. We really liked Jericho and of course, signed the petition to bring it back...don't know if it helped or not. So we are glad at least that FX didn't cancel The Riches.

I'm going to choose to not tag anyone else...basically everyone I know has already been tagged.

Head on Over to Ali's

Hear Ye! Hear Ye! Thanks to both Jennifer at Craftlilly and Amanda at Clothesknit I discovered Ali's summer goal contest.

In a nutshell, you post on her blog that you are participating and what color Blue Sky Alpaca that you would like, post your goals on your blog, and e-mail her the link. But you get bonus entries for referring people her way. So please tell her I sent you!

Summer Goals!
1. Dye bare yarn and design my niece's birthday present....ssshhh it's a secret!
2. Deciding between some felted vases or yes...joining the bandwagon (probably the last on the planet) to knit up a Chevron scarf for my mother-in-law.
3. Horcrux socks for hubby and me so we can wear to both the film opening and book release...keep forgetting which comes first (E's are almost done in the yummy Dyed Monarch I swapped with Leslie).
4. Knit up the first and second Sock that Rock kits.
5. Finish Poppy, Tulip and the Carie Cropped Sweater from Fitted Knits.

WIP photos...and finished Hurricane sock in the next day or so.
